Summer Again
Bicycle breezes on sunburned skin Numb tongue, blue with berry frozen pop Baby-skin
bare feet searing on the sidewalk Doing that summer shuffle, crablike step...hop
Oh yes, my dear Summer is
here
Backyard barbecues ducking yellow-jackets Stuffing ourselves on sweet corn and watermelon And marshmellows,
speared on sticks Held over embers, greying on the corners (just like me)
Red embers glowing bright In
that soft summer night
Laying back on scratchy, sun-dried grass Making mansions from the clouds that Floated
across the perfect blue above Dreaming of knights and princesses and that happily-ever-after kind of love
Oh
yes, my darling I believed in magic, once too just like you
Darkness, heavy and humid, pinning
us
to sweaty sheets
As we watch the fireflies blink across the screen and listen to the metalic clicking of the fan, the
drummer in the cricket band.
Oh yes my dear Summer is here
